Every month we like to introduce one of our staff members so you can get to know them better. This month, our HR Manager Christina told us about her family’s whirlwind European vacation during the hottest summer on record.
You won the lottery! What’s your first purchase?
The practical side of me would pay off my mortgage (so boring!) but the no-so-practical side of me would either buy a Tesla or take my family on a trip to Europe or South America (assuming we are waaaay past COVID).
Share one thing you love to do that you always strive to include in your daily routine.
I love to exercise outdoors so I try to either run or take a walk outside every day. I also like to do the crossword puzzle in the newspaper (OMG am I 80 years old? Yeesh!).
What are some of your favorite hobbies or activities?
All three of my boys have always been in sports, so my “hobby” was schlepping them to games and practices. These last few months have put a screeching halt to that. I usually do some sort of running relay with friends (e.g. Hood to Coast or Washington to Coast) and a few running races (Couve Clover, Silver Falls) but, again, those have all been cancelled this year. I also enjoy paddleboarding on Lacamas Lake.
Tell us about one of your most memorable experiences.
Five years ago, my family went on a European vacation for 4 weeks. Being with my family 24/7 during the hottest summer on record (at the time) was extremely challenging. We wanted to see “everything” so we only stayed in one place for a few days and then moved on to the next place. It was exhausting but, looking back on it now, we had so much fun and tons of great memories.
What is your favorite Biggs story?
I have only been with the company for about 6 months so I really don’t have a favorite Biggs story. However, my birthday is at the beginning of March (2 months after I started) and I was blown away when I came into work and saw my office decorated and was given a card signed by a bunch of my co-workers. I don’t know how anyone knew it was my birthday but I was so touched that someone took the time to do all that.
Is your favorite season spring, summer, winter, or fall – and why?
My favorite season is fall. Growing up in San Diego, we only have 2 seasons – Warm and Less Warm. I love seeing all of the leaves change color, and I love when the kids go back to school and it is quiet and peaceful in my house.
What was your first job?
My first job was working at a deli/ice cream parlor in a tourist trap near downtown San Diego (Seaport Village). I loved it! All of the people working there were kids my age. The owner was a grumpy old man and would always yell at us. I remember scooping ice cream for a customer one time and he grabbed my wrist and made me drop the scoop. He told me that the scoop was too big and I needed to re-do it. Right in front of the customer! I definitely learned a lot about customer service there.
What does success look like to you?
Success, for me, means being content and happy with yourself and with where you are in life. Social media has really increased the amount of “comparing” yourself to others and it is easy to get caught up in the “if only I had BLANK, then I would be happy.” I don’t think that is true. The key to success is being happy with who you are.
