Every month we like to introduce one of our staff members so you can get to know them better. This month, Client Services Coordinator in the Life&Health dept., Kasey, told us about building her own home, her favorite things about each season, and her first job at an A&W where she honed her root-beer-float-scooping skills!

You won the lottery! What’s your first purchase?

The first thing that I would purchase would be a sailboat with a cozy little boat house or cabin, and a slip on the river to keep it. It would be important that it would be close enough to be used as much as possible.

Share one thing you love to do that you always strive to include in your daily routine.

Since this quarantine has started and we are working from home, every morning I make sure to make the bed and “get ready” for work. I still get dressed in work clothes and also put shoes on.

What are some of your favorite hobbies or activities?

I have a lot of hobbies – like baking, gardening and remodeling – but my most favorite is being out on the water (rivers, lakes, oceans, I’m not picky). I enjoy wakeboarding and kayaking. I am looking forward to learning how to fish this year!

Tell us about one of your most memorable experiences.

About 20 years ago, I had the chance to build my own home. I had help from subcontractors for the majority of the work of course, but there was a lot of hands-on work for me too, like installing real hardwood floors! From picking out the house plans, to all of the little finishing details, it was very rewarding experience. I wouldn’t hesitate to try and do it again if given the opportunity. I worked at Home Depot at the time, and that really helped me know my way around building and construction.

What is your favorite Biggs story?

My favorite Biggs story so far (I’m sure there will be many more to come) is taking on Paul Davis Restoration’s gingerbread building competition at Christmas time. There was a team of us that got together and built a pretty “sweet” rendition of Fort Vancouver. I can’t wait to see what we accomplish for next year’s contest!

Is your favorite season, spring, summer, winter, or fall – and why?

I have lived in the Pacific NW all of my life, so I really like all of the seasons except for winter – too much rain, but then that’s what keeps us so green!

  • In the spring, I love the chartreuse green color of the new leaves and all of the spring flowers
  • In the summer, I love the warm sunny days and all of the outdoor activities that we get to enjoy – not to mention BBQs and bonfires
  • And for fall, I love the changing colors of our trees and crunchy leaves that fall to the ground on dry crisp days.

What does success look like to you?

Success to me is being a happy, kind, and warm person who is willing to learn and try new things. My kids are all about grown and they are my greatest success!

What was your first job?

Besides babysitting, my first real job was at an A&W Restaurant on Hwy 99. I had the privilege of serving up cold frosty mugs of root beer floats with real ice cream scoops, and boy did you ever have to know just the right method, or it was a foamy mess. I still cannot eat a chili dog to this day, the smell of the Coney sauce and raw onions really did me in.
