Every month we like to introduce one of our staff members so you can get to know them better. This month, our Surety Acct. Manager Letty told us (quite evocatively!) about her dream travel destinations, her Willy Wonka-esque first job, and a wrong turn that led her to a bear sanctuary! 🐻
You won the lottery! What’s your first purchase?
I’d buy a first class round-the-world airplane ticket with three stops. My first stop would be to backpack deep into the Nantahala National Forest in North Carolina to camp amongst the Blue Ghost Firefies. My second stop would be to the Japanese Lantern Festival to release my own lantern on the Sumida River that flows through Tokyo. For my final stop, I would snow shoe into a cozy cabin in Narvik Norway to watch the Northern lights while sipping on a warm mug of gløgg.
Share one thing you love to do that you always strive to include in your daily routine.
I am at my best when I can spend time outdoors. I try to get out for a walk or sit on a patio.
What are some of your favorite hobbies or activities?
Unplanned trips that lead to new places where I find hidden hikes, scenic views and the smell of nature. Looking up roadside attractions as we head down the highway discovering the who’s, what’s, why’s and when’s of these little local treasures.
Tell us about one of your most memorable experiences.
Hiking the Appalachian Trail, taking a wrong turn, and then realizing we were ½ a mile into a bear sanctuary.
What is your favorite Biggs story?
My first Christmas at Biggs 2019! We had a fun-filled Christmas Party, a white elephant gift exchange, a month-long Secret Santa, we won the gingerbread competition, and the office was covered in Christmas cheer!
Is your favorite season, spring, summer, winter, or fall – and why?
One of the things I love about the Pacific Northwest are the four distinct seasons. Each season is magical! Winter makes me feel alive; the air is cool & crisp.
What does success look like to you?
My favorite quote, “Decide what kind of life you really want and then say no to everything that isn’t that.”
What was your first job?
It was the summer when I was 14 years old, and my uncle worked at a candy factory. I wrapped hard candy into little twisty sticky paper. All I remember is eating too much candy and chatting all day long with the other girls. I don’t know if I even got paid for my candy wrapping expertise.
